Weekly Report 6: 09/24/2018 to 09/30/2018
On Friday, I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Peter Burns for an interview. Mr. Burns is an entrepreneur who is well-known in the Frisco area. He has played an active role in the community as the Spirit of Frisco award recipient, the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA) founder, the leader of the Leadership Frisco organization, and through serving in numerous other roles throughout the years. Mr. Burns has developed multiple businesses and supported many local projects, including the Mindbenders camp, so hearing his experience in the field of entrepreneurship was incredibly insightful to an aspiring entrepreneur.
Mr. Burns heavily emphasized his passion as being to empower our youth. In every program which he creates, the end goal is to support young people by developing their creativity and enhancing their learning experiences in any way possible. It was so inspiring to hear about how Mr. Burns has turned his passion into a career, and I gained so much wisdom and advice in not only selecting a field which serves others but also in building a professional network and gaining positive influence over others. Mr. Burns clearly has a lot of humility even though he is recognized as a hugely successful entrepreneur in our community, and this greatly encouraged me to grow my own character to be as service-oriented as Mr. Burns.
In the coming weeks, it is critical that I begin to evaluate further whether I will be studying creative advertising or entrepreneurship - or some combination of both - in the ISM program this year. My interview with Mr. Burns was wonderful and I would love to study with him if he was willing to mentor me, but it is important that I decide which topic I will be focusing on for this year. My independent research this week will center on comparing the two propositions and forming a consensus on what I will select as my year-long topic of study.
