Recently, much of my time has been spent researching graphic design. In contrast to advertising, graphic design is not necessarily aimed at attracting viewers in short, concise statements, but rather at appealing visually to an already engaged audience. Graphic design seems to serve a wider range of mediums, in short advertisements, magazines, illustrations, branding, et cetera, while advertising is more tailored to selling a product. While both graphic design and advertising go hand in hand, it is important to distinguish between the two concepts in order to further understand the specific techniques and skills necessary for each.
In learning more about the differences between graphic design and advertising, I came across a lot of information which suggested the significance in choosing which materials to use for a project. The research which I plan to complete for this upcoming week will center on exploring the medium of motion design. This type of film incorporates basic animation in editing moving drawings on top of a separate layer. In order to practice this skill, it is necessary to download an application that allows for video layering, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Photoshop. Once downloaded, it will be critical to familiarize myself with the settings of the creative application in order to understand how to easily access sketching, animating, and blending tools quickly. This practice will help to figure out how to navigate digital tools, as well as how to incorporate motion graphics into video marketing.
