Weekly Report 9: 10/15/2018 to 10/21/2018
For the assessment completed last week, the focus of the work completed was centered on familiarizing myself with the application “Procreate”. This application is tailored to digital artists in a way that allows created works to mimic physical mediums in their lifelike qualities. The plethora of tools available through Procreate was overwhelming at first, but through experimentation, it became easier to navigate the platform and amplify drawings with new techniques.
To put the newfound knowledge acquired to use, I created a sample drawing related to my mum challenge. Since this project has just now come to its final year of completion, this art piece was meant to commemorate local florist, Simply Blessed Flowers’ support and involvement by featuring their shop and a mum. In exploring the multitude of capabilities this application supports, it became evident that while the piece turned out nicely, not being familiar with artistic principles like shadows, contrast, and basic form would restrict work from being creative.
For this project, I was able to use photographs to base the sketches off of, but for any branding purposes, it would be necessary to understand how to create concept art. For future research, it will be beneficial to continue practicing in order to improve upon the artistic abilities as a whole, but also to focus on gaining that background of technical knowledge in order to be able to come up with innovative ideas instead of recreating photos.
