Weekly Report 13: 11/26/2018 to 12/02/2018

Recently I have been working to determine which specific topic I will be pursuing this year. The realm of entrepreneurial creative advertising is quite broad, and the skills required for various positions are numerous. After interviewing an agency that focuses more on the financial planning of advertising, meeting with a freelance cartoon artist, and speaking with an entrepreneur, it became evident that I would need to focus in on a specific area in order to clearly target my learning goals.

My final interview has been scheduled for this week with 324 Creative Agency, a firm that works specifically in designing media for clients. I am hopeful that this will be the right fit for me since I have seen that they complete a plethora of advertisements, ranging from social media posts to photography to graphic designs. Previously, it appeared to be most beneficial to find a mentor who offered a wide array of services in order to learn about a myriad of technological systems, applications, and tools. However, through conducting my own independent research about freelance artists I realized that specialists are more effective in showcasing superior abilities than generalists who can do every job in a mediocre quality. Hopefully selecting a professional who specializes in a select few mediums will allow me to further my research in detailed areas.

Additionally, lately I have been gathering research for my original work. Experimenting with Adobe Photoshop and watching numerous SkillShare tutorials has helped to solidify a basic understanding of how to animate motion graphics. This project exemplifies the idea of remaining specific to a singular topic while offering multiple sample designs to showcase skill-sets in that I have sketched many ideas for logos and texts but all of these will apply the same medium of motion design to come to life. In the upcoming week, my goal is transfer my paper and pencil sketches of various brands onto Adobe Photoshop by fleshing out rough drafts of these designs.
